      Senior Java Developer Interview

      20 Jul 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      London, England
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at OpenPayd (London, England) in Jun 2019

      Interview

The interview process had 3 stages. A take home test to implement an online banking system. If you are not working and you have 8 hours to work on this every day, you can put together a very cool software in a week. (That's the deadline.) Otherwise you most likely need to compromise on features implemented. The Javadoc and API documentation and test coverage are very important! (I felt, they are more important than the quality of your software.) The second stage is a video call with one of their lead Java guys. Nothing specific, just a chat about your solution and some Java / Spring related questions to find out if you built that software or got some help from someone. But that is very normal, nothing exceptional. The last stage was a face 2 face at his London office in the Shard. General competency chat, and some "no-one understands why need to ask this" type HR questions. Advice: Do not ask about flexibility around working hours. Occasional work from home and flexible hours are not working with them. 100% office based person is who they want. (As I heard the feedback that's why they rejected me.) Another advice: if they ask what would be your dream job, do not tell them something like being general manager at a football club. :-) Tell them something IT and/or Java related role! That's how you show them passion. It is not enough to prove them you've done similar job in the past and that was your best role ever.
