There was a complete disconnect between the job description and the expectations of the hiring manager. The hiring manager was reading my resume during the interview so there was clearly no screening besides what was done by HR. Then after asking questions that were so broad, he proceeded to tell me I don't have the right experience for the job. There was no room for discussion as there was clearly an expectation that was not being met. He maybe thought he didn't waste my time, but the time was already wasted as I had spent over a week in preparation for the conversation. The proper thing to do is to get to know your candidate, treat them like a human being, and then politely decline via HR. We are all humans and it doesn't matter how prestigious the company may think they are, if they can't treat people with decency, it isn't worth anything.
