I was contacted by a recruiter who advised I was a likely candidate, and interviewed by them. I took time off for this, and was introduced to one of the interviewers for the next day, who refused to shake my hand and walked away. I used the rest of the day to study for a high-stakes exam, and took off the next day as well for the interview. During the interview, the same woman again refused to shake my hand, and I discussed some of my job responsibilities that seemed similar to hers, and answered her technical questions to which she simply answered "interesting," and wrote very little down. I'm credentialed and experienced with troubleshooting, so it struck me as odd that she seemed to be uninterested in my answers. Finally, when I discussed my computer repair business in the past after the great recession, she laughed, and kept on laughing until she had to wipe her eyes. "You...had a business?!," and just laughed some more. She advised that she really wasn't interested as much in the technology of the business side of the job and preferred to "rely on my people." I realized at this point I didn't have a realistic shot at being hired, and even if I did, I would potentially be subjected to this type of behavior. Afterward, I interviewed with someone else, who seemed personable and professional enough, but I was unsure if his interview questions were serious considering the preceding experience, and after being tarred and feathered moments before, punted on the answers in order to accelerate my exit without having to explain what had just happened. To this date, it remains one of my most humiliating interview experiences--and unfortunately one I used 16 hours of pto to experience.
