I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Plexure (Auckland, Auckland) in Oct 2025
Interview
The first interview was with a manager and an intermediate engineer. The focus was mainly on behavioral questions, working processes, and my previous experiences.
The second interview was in person with two test engineers and lasted 1.5 hours. I was asked to follow instructions on a test framework to fix, expand, and implement new test cases with additional functionalities. For the first half, I was told I could use Copilot to help implement the solution, but they later commented that I was relying on it too much. During this part, the interviewers did not answer many of my questions and mostly observed without collaborating, despite being told it would be a collaborative scenario. They were quick to judge my solution and gave negative feedback midway through, which affected my confidence. The last half hour focused on questions about my CV and experiences, but these questions felt intentionally vague and confusing.
Overall, it felt as though the interviewers were trying to trip me up or catch me making mistakes, rather than helping me show my best. An interview should be about bringing out the best in a candidate, not treating them as an adversary especially in a field like tech, which thrives on collaboration.
