      Junior Software Engineer Interview

      24 Dec 2025
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at PolicyMe

      Interview

The process had four stages. The first was a basic HR screen about my background. The second stage was a take home assignment. After passing that, I moved on to a technical interview with team members. It was described as a front end interview, but it also included backend topics such as system and database design. Questions covered promises, the event loop, and walking through my code. The next stage was an interview with the CTO. He asked detailed questions about both front end and backend topics, as well as my past experience. His style was a bit hard to read, but very technical in a good way. The final stage, which I was told would be an interview with an HR leader, did not take place. Overall, the interviewers were positive and you could sense a genuine interest in the product and the work being done.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at PolicyMe in Apr 2024

      Interview

First round .Got a confusing take home assignment that takes around 2 hours to just understand. It was based on a game however they should know that there are people who don't play games. However, i really wanted to work at this company so I gave my best and built almost all features asked. As a new grad with tons of internships and personal projects, on my belt, i was able to build it pretty quick. Next round was a screening with an engineer. I was told it was just a continuation of project. However, I was asked questions on fundamentals of javascript, web and react and I wasn't prepared for it. I know how to build an app but they rejected me because i don't know Promises in Javascript ? I can learn those in a minute . Absolutely ridiculous how companies evaluate candidate these days. I am pretty sure I did the take home better than most of the candidates. But they rejected me because I couldn't answer some basic questions I can learn in few minutes ?? There are tons of topics and how are candidates supposed to know what to focus on.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Javascript fundamentals , React fundamentals, eventloop, useState, Promises etc. Focus on web fundamentals rather than your project
