First interview with the team and manager,
written test (1 hour test during which you have to write two short breaking news stories based on a press release and a video or audio of an interview)
second interview
final meeting for job offer.
I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Politico (New York, NY) in Sept 2013
Interview
I sent in an email responding to a job ad and they scheduled an in-house interview. Then sent a pitch email. Then had a second meet and greet and then received an offer.
Went through several rounds of interviews, including a writing test.
The editors did not leave a very good impression, the environment seemed high-pressure and unfriendly. No follow ups for a very long time.
Declined the offer because of low salary, no option to negotiate.

Question 1
Asked for story ideas which they then took used by themselves.
I applied online. I interviewed at Politico (London, England) in Apr 2020
Interview
I applied online for the job. I was then asked to do a interview online (due to Covid-19) with the UK editor. It was 40 mins long and went well, this was a few weeks after my application. One week after my first interview, I was invited for a second interview, again Skype, with the European editor and the UK editor. The questions were harder and more specific. After approx 45 mins they said they would send me a writing test. After one week I heard nothing. After another week, I emailed the person (at Politico) who had set up the interviews asking for feedback as at this point I knew I did not have the job. I received no reply. It is not difficult to send a rejection email to a candidate that has completed two rounds of the interview process. It is poor.
