My conversations with this company was an insulting and disappointing experience. The experience mirrors typical to executives who do not understand or realize what and how this sort of role provides business value, and look ta it as just transactional.
The first conversation started off with a barrage of basic questions regarding topics in our industry, with no introductions fo the individual, who they are, or their relationship to this role. Once established that I had a grasp of their topics, they went into an explanation of what they envisioned the role – in this conversation they seriously low balled the comp (by like $55-80k) and insulted the role/my industry since "all InfoSec is doing the polices and procedures, and providing them to potential clients" and “it is not that hard, some young scrappy person could do this” but then complained that none of those younger candidates were unable to answer their list of basic questions.
The next conversation was with the same individual, as well as their boss. This conversation was even more telling and enlightening, where the company has been remote for years; but he has all new employees install monitoring software on their computers for the first three months, and use a plugin with Zoom to have folks in a virtual office/conference rooms during a workday. Yes, they have the adult employees treated like children and invade their privacy where they track where they are “virtually”. The head boss entertained some questions before ending the conversation – clearly not understanding what an information security program would look like, what business value a role like this would bring to the table, or how having this role would be helpful for the success of the company.
I hope they figure this out, for the benefit of whoever is unlucky enough to get this role. Best of luck in being successful, with the executive leadership not setting them up for success. Even with that, the multiple red flags and the underlying corporate abuse and worker exploitation approach to their company tells me they have a horrid company culture.
