I've always had to drive and follow-up on the recruiters and ultimately had a great time and matched well with the actual team. I've received and agreed to a verbal offer following reference checks only to not receive a formal offer letter. After a few weeks of my own followup, I had to reinterview with the CEO, who later decided that the skillset did not meet the business need. A weird way to end the process weeks/months after it started. Perhaps the prior reviews are accurate and the CEO changes strategic/hiring decisions on the fly. It's a shame too, the rest of the actual department seemed wonderful.
