The first email you receive from the company is the PDF with the technical challenge. No previous interview no nothing. I shouldn't have done it but I implemented it. After they review it, they tell you about the position and the benefits. If you don't like it, you have wasted your time. If you tell them that the process is crap and that they should be a little bit more sensitive with candidates' free time, they more or less say that it's your fault and that their process is great...
