      Claims Customer Service Adjuster Interview

      7 Apr 2014
      Anonymous employee
      Austin, TX
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Progressive Insurance (Austin, TX) in Mar 2014

      Interview

I applied for a job that was posted on Feb 28, and was contacted in the first week of March to take an online assessment of my skills and personality. I found out one day later, via email, that I had passed the assessment and would be contacted soon to set up a phone interview. The following Monday (I found out about the exam on Friday) I was invited to set up an appointment for a phone interview. The cool thing about the phone interview schedule is that I was able to set it up for 7 AM (CST) -- this made it easy for me to participate in the phone interview without having to go in late to work or take an indeterminate amount of time for lunch. I had the phone interview at the appointed time, and was given very positive feedback on the results. The format was a bit more informal than that of my in-person interview, which was conducted a few days later. This took a little over two hours, and I met with two managers who asked me a series of STAR format questions. It was sometimes a little difficult to gauge their reactions since they were busy writing down pretty much every word I said, but I was able to establish a rapport with each of them in turn. My in-person interview was on a Tuesday, and I was contacted the following Thursday (March 20th) and told that Progressive was prepared to offer me the position. The only catch was that the hiring date was set at March 31st. This would not give me enough time to allow my current employer two weeks' notice before my departure, but the compensation was too good to pass up in lieu of not wanting to hurt anyone's feelings, so I accepted.

      Claims Customer Service Adjuster Interview

      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Progressive Insurance

      Interview

Interviewer asked a lot of questions that I had a difficult time answering because my past jobs have had nothing to do with meeting goals or working within a matrix. The job description used customer service as a main point but none of the questions had anything to do with my customer service background.

      Claims Customer Service Adjuster Interview

      12 Jul 2014

      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Progressive Insurance (Mayfield, OH) in Jun 2014

      Interview

As others have mentioned there are several steps to the process: pre-screen selection email, math and English tests, telephone interview, interview onsite with management, potential offer, and class start. As for me I started the process in early June and it ended in later June. I was selected and went through the process successfully and conducted onsite interviews at the Mayfield Village campus. The questions being asked were STAR format so you should keep answers concise. In the end I was not selected for the position. Feedback seemed pretty bogus e.g. "they weren't sure you could handle the fast paced nature of the position" yet "you have excellent communication and came prepared with full knowledge of our company". I was not applying for a CFO position but a very basic entry level position with the company and I have prior claims experience. I've applied for several other positions as suggested by a recruiter and was turned down rather quickly for them. I am rating this negative for a few reasons: I expected to be offered a position after showing good face and good effort with preparedness and genuine interest in the company, I do not appreciate a company doing intensive background checks on my history (my passing that check and them having contacted my foreign employer) only to not offer the position - this makes a candidate with international experience such as myself look foolish to have too many people calling my foreign employer abroad checking up on me, and in regards to the last point if they don't respect candidates' professional reputation they need to stop asking for such detailed background checks or wait until they are going to offer the position to a candidate which might be a more appropriate time and save their company money. TLDR: I passed all their checks/steps but was turned down for a position for vague and nebulous reasons - company contacted my foreign employer - not happy about it.
