      Application

I applied online. The process took 2+ months. I interviewed at Propeller (New York, NY)

      Interview

The 3 phone interviews were fine. Decision round interview in Portland with a managing director and co-founder. It was clear from the first second the co-founder didn't want to be there, and had no intention of hiring me. The co-founder's "phoning it in" and arrogant attitude was so bad that even the managing director was visibly uncomfortable within the first couple of questions. We went through all the motions anyway, total waste of time for everyone. Before the interview HR was very responsive with all communications. But then after the in-person interview, it took more than half a dozen emails and multiple phone calls for HR to reimburse my travel expenses... all of the sudden it took weeks to get a response and it was one excuse after another. This is tier 4 or 5 firm predominantly run by people who couldn't hack it at tier-3 firms. Which would be fine if it wasn't coupled with arrogance thick enough to cut with a knife (at least in their top leadership). If you're looking to work your way into terminal middle management at one of their client companies this might be a good place for you. But otherwise I wouldn't even recommend this place as a "safety" pick. This won't be a stepping stone to a real consulting firm because this company doesn't do strategy consulting at all. They are a run of the mill "staff augmentation" shop. Steer clear.

Thank you for the detailed feedback on your experience and our recruiting process. As a co-founder at Propeller, I hope and expect that everyone at the firm, myself included, treat all candidates with the utmost respect at every stage in the process. I am sincerely sorry if you felt otherwise at any point. In an effort to apologize directly, we have combed our candidate pipeline and are unable to identify a candidate that meets the criteria called out in this review. For that reason, we are now working directly with Glassdoor to ensure the legitimacy of this posting. While we always welcome open and honest feedback, we do not welcome illegitimate or malicious reviews of our company.

I applied through other source. I interviewed at Propeller

      Interview

Either the interviewers are liars, hypocrites, or both. The company is lost and can't offer competitive market rates. I crushed all four interviews and case studies. They tried very hard to find something wrong with my answers, but fell short and floundered. Just like what the other interviewees stated on this site, they will ask if you want feedback and then ghost you.

      Question 1

      1. A company has missed deadlines, and vendors and leadership relationships are fractured. How would you fix it.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Propeller (Portland, OR) in Jun 2025

      Interview

Exactly as described on their website. Prompt to send scheduling invites and quick follow up after first 2 rounds. Follow up from 3rd round took about 10 days and they declined to bring me in for a case study. The first 3 interviews seemed to go very well, so I was surprised. The “decline” email invited me to reply if I wanted to ask for specific feedback. Since the decline took me by surprise, I really wanted the feedback, so I replied right away and asked for insights on where I fell short. Still no response a month later. That’s disappointing because they invited the request for feedback, and because it seemed like they tried to foster a culture of feedback to drive continuous improvement. The lack of response leaves me with a less favorable impression of the firm than when I started the process.

Asked about how I handle feedback and an example of something I’ve worked on improving based on feedback.

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Propeller (Portland, OR) in May 2024

      Interview

Interviews were overly structured and largely unpersonal - difficult to connect with anyone on a personal level. The questions were very generic and surprisingly not well aligned to the role applied for. Talking points between interviewers around needs and the role were disconnected and confusing. The work put into the business case turned out to not be a good use of time.

      Question 1

How would you close the gap between customer research and the platform decision - ensuring those insights are incorporated into any technology investments?
