      Graphic Designer Interview

      20 Jul 2015
      Anonymous employee
      Camarillo, CA
      Accepted offer
      Neutral experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through other source. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Pulse Instruments (Camarillo, CA) in Dec 2014

      Interview

I was found through my resume on Monster. The owner sent me an email about the open position. I followed up after doing some research on the company online. The interview process seemed straight forward at first, then because awkward at the in-person interview. I felt that my privacy was slightly infringed upon and have found that personal business is on the table more here than anywhere else I have worked.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

There are three questions that stand out the most in my mind. How old I was, How many kids do I have and their ages, who would take care of them when they got sick, and what religion am I. I'm pretty sure those questions could get them in deep trouble for discrimination.

      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through other source. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Pulse Instruments in Jun 2014

      Interview

I was contacted by their HR department after they saw my resume on an online job site. I had two interviews. The first was a 10 minute interview with the CEO. I saw at least three other candidates in the office, since the interviews were scheduled back to back. It felt like the speed dating version of job interviews. The staff was friendly, but the process was so strange and rushed that I didn't expect to make it to the next level. To my surprise, they called me back for a second interview with the CEO and his wife, who runs the office. Again, the interview was very short. They looked through my portfolio and only wanted to know a little about my most recent position. Again, very nice people, but it was probably the oddest interview experience I've ever had.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

I only remember five questions from the interviews, four of which were illegal. Tell us about your last position (legal). Are you a U.S. citizen? (They are only allowed to ask if you are legally able to work in the U.S.) What is your date of birth (i.e. age)? (They are only allowed to ask if you are 18 or older). Are you married? Do you have kids? These are NOT legal questions to ask in an interview because they can lead to discrimination. It was pretty off-putting.
