I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at QualityAI (Preston, North West England, England) in Feb 2017
Interview
First interview, telephone call, mostly soft-skill questions. This was a good experience.
Second interview started with 1 hour written test (my mobile phone was taken off me and locked in a metal cashbox -- so be prepared for this). Mostly stuff you'd see in an ISTQB foundation exam. My passport was also taken off me for some reason. Probably photocopied. (Returned for test).
After being asked to wait in the meeting room for 5-10 minutes, interviewers came in. From the get-go, got the impression they didn't want me there. One interviewer spent most of the time asking me about what I'd put in a test plan, picking on the tiniest of details. Other interviewer was more concerned about whether I'm a manual or an automation tester -- because of my background in development -- and didn't let it drop, kept asking me. I said manual, but to be honest I do whatever needs to be done to ensure quality of the product.
The hour spent doing the written test seems like it was a waste of time -- the interviewers didn't have it with them while interviewing me, and it wasn't ever referred to again. As someone with RSI, I was in great pain completing the test, so this was upsetting.
After about 30 minutes was given "feedback" about my CV; that if I'm going to apply for a testing role I should downplay my knowledge and experience in development. Was even told I had Selenium on my CV (I don't). I would assume that knowledge in development would make me a better tester, but apparently QualiTest disagrees.
After this, was shown the door (literally). No handshake when saying goodbye. Couldn't have gotten rid of me any quicker if they had tried.
No feedback. Assumed I haven't been offered the role. After this feedback, I'm almost certain I won't be!
