      Site Reliability Engineer Interview

      17 May 2024
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Melbourne
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at ROLLER (Melbourne) in May 2024

      Interview

Initial HR interview was very friendly. Then they proceed to the second interview with CIO. He was not prepared for the interview ( had not gone through my resume and haven't talked with HR person ). He was asking questions about AWS. He randomly picks up a AWS service from the CV and keep digging into that service asking multiple questions. This interview is nothing about SRE position. They are basically trying to hire a Platform Engineer disguised as a SRE ( probably because of the pay range ). Responsibilities advertised in the Job description have already been done by others according to CIO. The person who gets hired has to do basically platform architect/ solution architect role but getting paid as SRE.

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at ROLLER (Melbourne) in Feb 2024

      Interview

Screening interview with HR person was very friendly and inviting. Asked me questions about my current role, why I wanted to move and what I wanted from the new role. Second interview with the CIO, Sean that was mostly just asking about the tech stack that I used. Questions moved towards AWS specifically and there was too much focus on this stack from the CIO. Weird interview since they didn’t ask about any of the SRE principles like monitoring and observability or deployment cicd questions

      Question 1

How do you deploy onto a EC2 instance
