      IOS/Android Developer Interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Rage On!

      Interview

If you don't want to read this whole thing, the last paragraph has a summary. I submitted my basic information and resume via RageOn!'s website and was promptly replied to by HR asking me to fill out another, longer form. At first, it was what I expected: how to contact me, am I authorized to work in the US, have I ever been convicted of a crime. Things started to get weird once I got in to the meat of the form. The form requests that you friend the fan page, the founder, and his assistant on Facebook and connect to the founder and his assistant on LinkedIn. I can understand this process for someone fresh out of college with no experience or applying somewhere with high turnover but is that reasonable for a position where experience is expected and that has a $100k+ salary? I'll let you decide. Further down the form, there are a whole slew of questions that you answer 0-10. They ask questions like "How familiar are you with Quickbooks or Quickbooks Pro?", "How familiar are you with Microsoft Excel or Google Spreadsheets?", and other questions not at all related to the position. Granted, the form isn't very long so it isn't totally unreasonable yet. I finished it in 15 minutes and shipped it off to HR. I expected a screening call, just like every other company I've dealt with. After all, I did provide a phone number in the previous form so that they could contact me. No. Another prompt email from HR asking me to fill out another form...but this time, it was 27 questions long and virtually all short answer! Well, at least they responded quickly. It seems like instead of actually taking the small amount of time to interview viable candidates over the phone or via a Hangout (mind you, I've made it through two screening forms already), RageOn! decides to waste potential employee's time by making them write essays. How does any work get done at this place? I begrudgingly filled out the form hoping that whatever I wrote would be used to supplement an interview with a human being. Not a chance. A week later, I receive an obviously automated message that my skill set isn't what is needed. Quite puzzling as my experience matched their listing. It appears as though RageOn! won't give you the time of day until they've thoroughly wasted your time. I've never seen such a poor hiring process and I've dealt with dozens of startups around the nation. Skip these guys on your next job search.
