Applied online and received an email from the recruiter asking me to schedule directly with the CEO - I took this as a good sign because most current tech interview loops are painfully and needlessly long. Chat with the CEO was pretty informal - this was going to be their first product hire. I walked away with the impression that he didn't entirely understand the discipline of product management or what they should be expecting their first product hire to do. I leaned into my expertise regarding product growth, pricing, and revenue, given that a product head would rightfully be expected to contribute (if not outright own) to discussions and strategy re: pricing and MRR. The CEO bluntly replied "I don't care about money", which seemed like a bizarre opinion for a CEO to both have and to admit outloud. Left a bizarre taste in my mouth.
