Recruiting screen followed by an behavioral interview with the hiring manager. Absolute trainwreck. They showed up 6 minutes late, seemed disinterested or having a bad day the minute they joined. Before we could even do intros the hiring manager started complaining that my camera was "out of focus" and asked me to restart the meeting to fix it, which didn't improve it for them. There was nothing wrong with my camera, and it was clearly on their end but I tried to be polite as they kept trying to get me to do things to fix it. Wasted 5 minutes on this supposed focus issue before they even said their name. Then they, clearly knowing we had little time left, breezed through their own intro, and asked me for mine. The minute I started speaking they were off in their own world opening what looked like multiple websites, eyes darting everywhere, completely disinterested. There first question was "how do I grow people" and I gave an example of mentoring junior and intermediate to which they cut me off and said frustratedly "I'm sure we can debate it but I don't think juniors are ever necessary on a team". I was in shock, have never heard that from a senior leader in my 20 years in the industry. A few more questions, and we were all done, at which point they asked for a bathroom break before letting me ask any questions. They then came back, gave one sentence replies and ended the whole thing with an almost sarcastic "well, I liked this conversation. see you later". I'm still shellshocked by the whole experience as this was my dream company for many years. Never received a follow up from recruiting, and that was that!
