      Inside Sales Representative Interview

      31 Oct 2015
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Pasadena, CA
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Redgate Software (Pasadena, CA)

      Interview

Fairly in line with the other reviews. Phone screening and then a phone interview with manager. Then an in-person which is a 2 part interview. It used to be 2 separate interviews but they were transparent in saying that if you do not make it through the first part, then they'll just say thanks but they're going a different direction and you won't continue to the second half that day. First part is standard, why sales, why this and that, Resume overview, background, etc. Then you are required to do a presentation on the topic they gave you. I was asked to stay for the 2nd half. The 2nd part consists of various scenarios in which you are asked how you would handle it. Then you get 10 minutes to prepare for a mock call where you call the manager (theyre in another room on speaker) and you play out the scenario. They give you CRM notes. The company has a flat management structure, seems to have good work life balance, and people here seem generally happy. Given the fact that it was my sales job back when I interviewed with them, I could have done better on the mock calls. It was good experience that ended up getting me my first sales job for a better company. Note: Be aware however of what this position is. You are not paid commission which is spun as a positive but in actuality this is a very good position to get your feet wet with experience for about a year. The draw of sales is the high pay so getting paid $45-55 (max) with no chance at promotion is a dead end job with high churn. Great for students and people with no sales experience but there is no promotion structure. The general sense I got was they will treat you well, train you and it will be a good time with a decent entry level salary while you are there, but you will leave to better and greater things once the experience you gain surpasses the position. They actually said this.

      Interview

Hollow. They use a 3rd party recruitment service called phoenix and man it definitely doesn’t play well to people who are more sociable, ya know, like sales people are :) you talk at a screen and there is zero conversation dynamics. Like we’re robots. Also this company is overseas so they have zero context of American culture. I was describing myself and I was like “oh wait, they probably have zero idea what I’m talking about” very impersonal. Tells you a lot about the company

Thank you for your honest feedback. We understand that interviewing can be a big investment in time and energy, and we’re always open to receiving feedback to improve our candidate experience and ensure we’re providing a positive experience whether you interview directly with our team or with one of our trusted partners. For some entry-level sales roles, for the past 6 years, we have worked with our third-party agency, Phoenix51 (in the UK), to recruit candidates, focusing on core skills and aptitude, rather than purely experience listed on your resume. While this interview process allows us to find a talented and diverse group of candidates, it is competitive and different from our usual interview format. The Phoenix51 team has reviewed nearly 1000 applications for a handful of openings. This is no small task and to ensure that they are able to review every application, they do employ the use of a video recording as an initial step in the interview process prior to speaking directly with a team member. As their team is based in the United Kingdom, where Redgate Software is also headquartered, they have a very thorough understanding and robust context of "American culture". It is true that the solutions we provide are quite technical which could perhaps be intimidating for those that do not have a technical background. However, we do not require the majority of our commercial roles to have prior technical experience. We take pride in providing thorough technical training to all our commercial new starters as well as our ability to equip our employees with the necessary information and skills to not just be confident in their roles but to grow their careers. We appreciate the time and investment all of our candidates make in considering Redgate Software as their next career home, and thank you again for taking the time to provide feedback!

phone screen followed by an interview they asked me to prepare a presentation to give to the manager and a technical representative. The product is fairly technical so it took a while for me to learn about products and prepare a presentation.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. Your feedback is valuable as we continuously strive to enhance our interview process to ensure it aligns seamlessly with the needs and expectations of our candidates. In our sales roles, we typically conduct a series of three/four interviews, which include a brief presentation segment. This allows us to gain deeper insights into your presentation style and its alignment with our products and clientele. Although our portfolio is niche, we believe in evaluating candidates' ability to grasp concepts at a foundational level. This approach not only aids candidates in comprehending our products but also informs our training focus during the onboarding process. Above all, we are committed to fostering a positive experience throughout the assessment of skills, values, and technical proficiency. Inside Sales Representative Interview

      8 Jun 2023
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Austin, TX
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Redgate Software (Austin, TX) in Jun 2023

      Interview

This was one of my worst interviewing experiences in my life, despite how kind everyone was. First, the employment ad said you don't need to know about the software, they are looking for a culture fit. Do not believe this, that was not true. After two pretty normal screening interviews, the on-site interview required you to understand the software (SQL and DevOps) and they even asked to understand their competitors. And you have to create a presentation on tech you like, so upfront I put hours of work into this role. After a lot of round robin interviews, more than half of the group was cut in a very public way. If they were sensitive, they would have told everyone to go home, and that the top performers would have an additional call later that day. At that point, I had already been on campus for 6 hours. I felt fortunate to have made it past that round... But the way they structured the last group of interviews was such an abuse of our time. I was exhausted by the end, and I'm not surprised I didn't move forward, because I didn't want to be there anymore. It was an 11 HOUR INTERVIEW DAY. With a second round of public cuts. It felt like a game show. If they had sent everyone home after the first part of the day, it would have required an additional 20 minutes of interviewing time afterwards. That could have been done on Zoom. I'm not mad I didn't get an offer, but I was mad that I spent 11 HOURS of my day not getting an offer. Everyone was so nice, so it's hard for me to write this. It does not reflect on their personalities, but I hope they understand that was the least efficient use of all the candidates time. I wouldn't encourage anyone to apply here.
