I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Remitly (Seattle, WA) in Oct 2018
Interview
30 min Phone Screen with Recruiter, 45 min Phone Screen with team member, 6 hour on-site with 5 1:1 interviews with team members and leaders. After spending several hours in the process received a form email that they weren't extending an offer, while companies aren't obligated to provide feedback, a more personal interaction was expected.

Question 1
How do you interact with engineers? What happened when you were surprised by an estimate?
It took Remitly more than a month to book the first round, and during this time, three interviewers were replaced by the hiring team due to availability and other logistical reasons. I was asked to provide my availability 5 times. On the interview day, my interviewer arrived a few minutes late. However, the interviewer didn't apologize. The hiring team claimed that its interview process is similar to Amazon's, but the art of asking relevant follow-up questions and providing actionable feedback is not as polished as Amazon's.
Remitly employs a situational interview process that emphasizes assessing your current experience and aligning it with the role and the company’s culture. The interviewers come from various functions, including some you may not work with directly. Each discussion typically lasts an hour and is highly interactive, diving deep into specific scenarios. This requires a thorough understanding of your domain, as superficial knowledge won’t suffice. However, the interviewers create a supportive environment, giving you ample time and guidance to articulate your responses effectively. Overall, it’s a well-rounded evaluation that explores multiple facets of your candidacy, making for an engaging and insightful experience.
