Very straightforward process that did not involve direct contact with a human. After an initial "application" of a writing sample (describe your hometown where you grew up) and a short grammar test, you were able to take the first captioning test. It's important to read the style guide and watch the video to know what's going on during the test. If you did ok on that, you were asked to take 2 more (to be completed within 24 hours). They sent an "ideal" video after the first test and I saw I was spot on for most of it. A lot of people say they have great grammar and spelling etc. but being good at this requires more than that. A sense of how people read, good timing, etc. I am going to do the 2nd and 3rd test later so as of this point, no offer.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
No direct questions. "Describe your hometown where you grew up" was the prompt for the writing sample.
Initial information is collected regarding work experience and skills. If you are a fit you will be contacted. Must pass exam. Given materials to study and can search through the documents to make sure you apply rules correctly.
There was no interview or anyone that reached out to talk about the position. There was a test after a training video to ensure you could do the required work to a high standard.
The interview process for the freelance captioned position is fairly standard. You have to demonstrate that you can caption a video using their system. If you are able to meet metric requirements right off the bat it is not that big of a deal.
