After scheduling a 30m zoom interview, I ended up interviewing with the CEO of the company for over an hour. We had a really pleasant conversation and at the end, he made it sound like he was extremely interested in moving forward and told me he would get back to me in 2 days to schedule follow up interviews with team members who I would potentially be working with. 2 days went by, nothing...a week, nothing..several weeks, nothing. I sent two follow up emails, one as a thank you and the second to just ask them to let me know if theyâve decided to fill the role or move in a different direction. I got 0 responses.
It takes 1 minute to be courteous and they didnât have the decency to do it. While I understand the industry is competitive and they told me off the bat they received a lot of applicants, the CEO should either work on his interview skills and make it more transparent that theyâre not ready to make a decision, or have the decency to send a 2 line email to let interviewer know. Schedule an auto response email or something.
Also, I realized about 30m in that my interview was being recorded. This made me uncomfortable but of course it felt weird to say anything at that point. They should ask people up front if they are comfortable with being recorded.
The agency has a lot of good reviews but things like this make me skeptical that the reviews are real. The fact that the CEO is conducting first round interviews is also a bit of a red flag but I guess given the size of the company, thatâs expected. I am now of course happy that they didnât contact me, because the way they conducted themselves is extremely unprofessional. I have worked in the Ecommerce space for many years and have interviewed for many positions at various organizations and know that respectable companies all have proper systems in place to follow up with interviewers.
