I was contact around a month or so after I applied for the job. I applied online and the application required the writing of a one-page paper (describe a situation and analyze it). We did an interview via Skype without video and it was super easy. Basically, they just told me about the position, asked me to introduce myself, and then asked me to confirm a few things (where I live, etc.). I asked a few questions too, and that was it. I was told I would hear by the end of the week, but didn't hear anything. I sent a thank you a few hours after my interview and then a follow-up email the next week, but never heard anything personalized again. It was a few weeks before I got the generic email the position had be filled. Because this position required me to take time to write an analytical writing sample, I think it would be courteous to give a personalized rejection email back or at least reply to my own email.
