      Senior Front End Developer Interview

      24 Jan 2020
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Los Angeles, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at SADA (Los Angeles, CA) in Jan 2019

      Interview

I was contacted by an internal recruiter via LinkedIn followed by a phone screen with recruiter. That led to a video chat with their technical lead. They then proceeded to ask me to complete a homework assignment. After that I was invited to on-site interview to discuss my homework and meet the project manager and technical lead that I spoke with. I wasn't told who I was going to meet - usually companies are very clear about the interview process but I was fine without knowing. The on-site was very awkward and time-consuming. I've been through many technical interviews where they take half a day at the on-site but you meet several members on the team. But also, companies who ask this of you tell you about this during the initial phone screen. This was not the case here. In retrospect, I think this is probably a red flag and an indicator of how unprofessional this company is. One more thing about the on-site - it took almost 3 hours but I only met with the technical lead and the project manager and during this experience the two of them argued with each other. I thought that was actually very entertaining but at the same time I found this very awkward and odd. After all of this, I never heard a yes or no from this company. But to be honest, I heard extremely negative things about this company (see below for more details on that) so I wasn't very proactive about following-up nor was I in the slightest bit surprised or disappointed with their unprofessionalism. I am an open-minded person so I thought I should find out for myself. Plus, it was good interviewing practice. I know someone who worked at SADA for about 3 years. We are very good friends. I actually forgot they worked here but I recall this person telling me about all the stress and unprofessionalism they experienced at this job. Then after my friend and I talked about my job search at the time and I mentioned SADA, my friend reminded me that they worked there. Apparently the reviews for the company are fictitious so their company rating is outrageously higher than it should be. Pay attention to the negative reviews. Those are in-line with the things I remember my friend talking about when they worked at SADA. Overall, this interview was meh. Nothing special and the on-site was lackluster. The recruiter I was contacted by does not work at this company anymore - he lasted a little under 2 years at this company. I wasn't entirely convinced about the amount of projects they have and my source tells me that during their time working here, they never really launched any projects but they always talked about hard deadlines. They promised bonuses but my friend never received one penny. Apparently my friend was let go before bonuses were distributed (if they were even given to anyone). At any rate - there are a lot of great companies to work for out there. All I can say is be patient and choosy. Keep looking but it can't hurt to interview and get that practice in. Just go in with your eyes wide open.
