I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at SEB AB in Mar 2021
Interview
Just like any other interview. Started off with self introduction and followed by question about job experience by the manager. It then followed by answering a series of technical questions from the interviewer related to the technology being used in the organisation. The final part of the interview involved a real time online coding on the spot with the screen shared where all of the interviewers to can assess one technical capabilities. The interview panel consists of a technical lead, a senior developers, and two managers. While most of the assessment are pretty straight forward, there are some questions where the interviewer seems to look for his sets of specific answer. Not to mention some of his in follow up technical questions are formulated into trick candidate into the wrong answer. It makes one think that the whole interview process is to find even a slightest mistake to rule out a candidate. Next, there isn’t any mentioning of how one is being assessed prior to commencement of online coding. It seems that, it’s not enough for one to just to get the logic correctly and get the program working. The coding assessment requires candidate to show their mastery of the specific programming language chosen. What’s disappointing me most is the assessment didn’t reflect the values uphold by the company; which is inclusion and diversity; the most appealing part of joining the organisation where differences in experience and technology are being valued. In summary, while it’s common for tech giant like Google, Apple , or Amazon to put a candidate through a challenging process in the interview to rule out candidates. But then it comes with a higher remuneration package. It’s just not worth the effort to go through such a laborious interview process just to get the job. Moreover, the remuneration package isn’t one of top in its similar industry. My advices to candidate are only apply if you have already mastered all the technology skills displayed in the JD. DO NOT APPLY for the posted position if you haven’t mastered the technology stack being used or if you have a mastery in other programming language but decided to try out something new because they will find any fault to your answer even for a slightest mistake and rule you out and make you feel bad after the interview.
