      Compliance Officer Interview

      24 Apr 2023
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at SEB Housing in Apr 2023

      Interview

Interview process was very quick and it wasn’t clear next steps after the first interview with the hiring manager and operations manager what the next steps would be. After a quick 30 minute interview I was asked to provide references and given a job offer less than 48 hours later. After negotiating with the president of the company for 24 hours who extended the job offer I was sent a formal offer letter and paperwork. As soon as I sent in all of my paperwork however I was told they are pulling my offer and it’s a bad fit with no further explanation. I have froze my credit because I am not sure if I should be worried about identity theft since it was as soon as I sent my information the offer was pulled. I would be very careful about sending any info over to them. They wouldn’t give me any feedback other than all of a sudden I went from being a good fit to a bad fit as soon as my paperwork was turned in. They also only offer 10 vacation days, no retirement match and only cover 50% of medical insurance. I would stay away from this company. It also appears the physical location is in the side of a house. Something isn’t right here.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Why do I think I would be a good fit Scenario type questions on what projects I’ve done that I am proud of, and what kind of management do I work best under etc

      SEB Housing response

These claims are ridiculous and I am happy to have this opportunity to respond. We rescinded the offer to this person after they accepted the offer but then continued to demand more than we could provide. Our employees are work-from-home, and we provide entire workstations and double monitors and everything else. What we do not provide are laptops, and the requirements are that people work from a designated space in their house. This was made clear, but this person repeatedly asked for a laptop, and said they wanted to be able to work from their vacation home, even after we detailed our policies. We ran this issue by our third party HR Company, and they confirmed we should pull the offer. We are a legitimate company who deals with tens of thousands of sensitive files and personal information a year. The idea that we are not legitimate, or would do something illegal with this person's personal information would be laughable if it were not so insulting (as committing identity theft on a single person would ruin a business I spent 20 years building). We also offer 401K Safe Harbor and Profit Sharing contributions (but they are right that we don't offer retirement match). Our office is in a home that was converted into an office and is zoned as commercial (it was rezoned 100 years ago and has been a commercial space ever since). We renovated our office about 8 years ago, and obtained every and all permits necessary through the City of Needham. It’s quite nice actually!
