I interviewed at Scarborough Health Network (Scarborough, ON)
Interview
The interview process typically involves a panel interview with the unit manager and clinical leaders and lasts about 30 to 45 minutes. It includes a mix of behavioral and clinical scenario questions focused on post-operative care, prioritization, patient safety, communication, and working within the RPN scope of practice. Interviewers may ask follow-up questions to assess critical thinking and escalation. The interview usually ends with an opportunity for the candidate to ask questions, and successful candidates may proceed to reference checks before an offer is made.
Applied online for various units.. about a month later got a call back to interview for the medicine unit at general site. I was interviewed by the manager and the CPL. interview was for 1015, and it was through Microsoft Teams. I logged in at 1000 and the CPL came in the meeting at 1016, the manager for the unit was about 10-15 mins late login into the meeting as he was in another meeting supposedly. So the CPL pretty much went over the role and gave information about the unit. Then the manager took over and he asked me about my experience, he asked scenario based questions. I had done my consolidation at the hospital and he asked me why I wanted to work on this specific unit and not the unit I completed my consolidation. I told him I learnt a lot however that unit wasn’t the best fit for my future goals .. I guess he didn’t like that answer cause from there it went downhill. His tone was very condescending, and he indirectly told me my assessment skills were poor. He kept cutting me off while I was answering certain questions. & the CPL just sat there and was basically quiet the whole interview, made said a few words. Half way through the interview, I was over it and realized I wouldn’t want to work on a unit that I felt little and where the manager seems like he’s unsupportive. They also told me the patient load was 6-7 and there was no psws to help. The CPL was nice in the beginning but she also cut off her camera maybe 8 mins before the end of the call, without saying excuse me or bye. Anyways.. it was a terrible experience, one of the worst interviews I had & I usually get the jobs I interview for. By the end of it, I already knew I wasn’t getting the job.
