I applied online. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at Scotts Miracle-Gro (Modesto, CA) in Nov 2014
Interview
I was unable to clearly hear or understand the interviewer during a phone interview. The interviewer's voice was garbled and the transmission often broke-up, and in the background I could clearly hear other voices. After a couple of minutes I expressed my concerns to the interviewer. She mentioned the voices were her co-workers conducting other phone interviews. I told her it was very distracting and made it hard to hear and understand her. She excused herself for a few moments in order to address the problems. After returning, in the first five seconds things appeared better, but then the problems returned and seemed to have worsened. Frustrated at this point, I decided to end the interview as I needed to get ready for work, and therefore I did not have the time to let Scotts take an unknown amount of time to work through technical and environmental (loud background voices) issues of their own making.
Due to the background noise and technical issues the attempt at a phone interview just came across as an amateur operation. I felt like I was dealing with a low rent call center. As a interviewee I made certain there would be no distractions on my end, it is not unreasonable to expect Scotts to do the same.

Question 1
Only got through a few basic questions about job requirements before ending the interview.
Thank you for the feedback. While technical issues may happen, we can control the environment and apologize your experience wasn't better. We addressed both the technical issues and the environment (ensure quiet place for discussion) so that other applicants have a better experience.
