I recently went through the interview process for an Advisor role and unfortunately had a disappointing experience with communication. Made it through HR Screen, Hiring Manager and Colleagues (x2) interviews so invested several hours of time. I received no update after the interviews regarding next steps, then, a week later, late on a Thursday evening I was sent a project assignment that was due the following Monday. I completed the assignment within the requested timeframe and submitted it as instructed. However, there was no acknowledgement that the materials were received, and I did not hear anything back for over a week.
During the process there was also a moment where I was confused with another candidate, which added to the sense that the process was not well organized.
While the assignment itself was interesting, the lack of communication and follow-up felt unprofessional, especially given the time and effort candidates are asked to invest in completing project work during the hiring process. A simple confirmation of receipt and clearer communication would have gone a long way toward creating a more positive candidate experience.
