      Management Trainee Program Interview

      6 Jul 2015
      Anonymous employee
      Atlanta, GA
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Sherwin-Williams (Atlanta, GA) in Jun 2015

      Interview

The interview was pretty lengthy, it took about 2 months. I applied online, then a recruiter contacted me and we scheduled a Skype interview. After the recruiter feels like you are a good match, she will schedule you for an in store visit. The recruiter will send you a packet with questions to ask the manager and asst. manager. Then once that is completed you contact the recruiter and they will get your feedback on the visit. I read other reviews where you will go over the questions in your packet, but I didn't do that. My store visit was the only time that packet was used. The last step is to have a meeting with the District Manager and the City Manager. They will ultimately make the decision. I was offered the position at the end of my meeting. The Skype and meetings with the district manager are very formal and they ask the basic interview questions, where you use STAR format to answer. Also, the time frame between the store visit and the district manager are very long apart, that is what took the longest for me, being that they are very busy and you have to schedule within their time. Once you are hired you have to complete a background check and physical prior to getting your start date.

      Question 1

Why should we hire you? Tell me about a time where you...? Tell me about yourself? What motivates you?

      El Paso, TX

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Sherwin-Williams (El Paso, TX)

      Interview

Showed up 10 minutes before the interview time only to be told the manager I had my appointment with had gone out to lunch (10 AM). It was a training store so I imagine this manager has many people come through his store so after they told me to come back in an hour I simply went home and told the recruiter what happened. It was a huge red flag and I knew this was not the company for me.

      Question 1

Will you wait around and come back in an hour?

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Sherwin-Williams in Dec 2022

      Interview

The screening interview was situational, not bad at all, standard "do you have any work experience to link to this" kinds of questions. Second was an in-store walkthrough, the particular manager I got was a good guy and had very little issue describing exactly what the day-to-day around there was like, didn't try to "sell the corporate dream" like HR professionals will. Third interview (final) was where the problem lied. Hiring manager there gave off sociopathic vibes, and I was more or less given a standard interview, but either they had already made a decision on a prior interview or just really couldn't handle basic human interaction. Very impersonal and robotic from the moment I got past the receptionist. The main problem with their interview system is that the first two interviews really don't matter. The last one with the hiring manager holds all the weight, and they will string you along until this point. I heard this complaint around the internet while I was interviewing here, and I can confirm its authenticity. Overall, interview here if you like, but don't trust that positive vibes from the beginning will mean local corporate will care about your time invested in interviewing there. They can and will dismiss you in half an hour of interviewing after you've put in ~2 hours 15 in prior interviews, one requiring travel.
