I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Shopify (Toronto, ON) in Jan 2019
Interview
The interview process is divided into three part:
- Home-based programming challenge
- "Life-story" interview
- In-person technical interview
I participate in first two ones for iOS developer intern. The challenge is open for everyones, you should create iOS native application to fetch JSON data from REST API and display in proper format to the user. One week after deadline submission HR has reached me to life-story interview date and time.
Life-story interview took place via online video platform. We talked with recruiter about 40-50 mins about my life from school till present moment. It was casual conversation without any bias.
Unfortunately, week after the person whom I talked to call me and inform that there are more experienced candidates then me and they move forward with them.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Describe whole life-story from school to present moment.
When you apply, you apply with your resume (and optional referall). After a couple days if your resume passes, then you get the link to the OA. After the OA (if you pass), then you get invited to technical interview. If you pass technical interview, then you get invited to life story interview.
I completed the Online Assessment (OA) which consisted of three LeetCode-style questions. I was able to use my preferred languages, Ruby and C++. I successfully solved two out of the three problems, but unfortunately, it wasn't enough to move on to the next round.
