I applied through other source. I interviewed at Shopify
Interview
Meeting the recruiter, code challenge, life story interview, pair programming (2x), technical deep dive. They’re very thorough, but friendly and accommodating. Although the process takes more time than with other companies, it was enjoyable.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
While they didn’t ask directly, the core question was: “Are you a good fit for our company & mission?”. I felt like that mattered as much as my skills. Shopify wants emphatic, friendly & helpful people.
The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Shopify (Toronto, ON) in Jul 2022
Interview
Doesn't matter because they will eventually send you a generic "We've shifted priorities to focus on more immediate initiatives" email. No doubt, interviewing at Shopify was a waste of time.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
- Useless life story
- Technical round to check if you can use a text editor.
- Another technical round to check if you can create a class.
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Shopify in Jan 2022
Interview
One of the recruiters approached me to discuss opportunities at Shopify. They congratulated me for all my achievements with my current employer and commended me for my skills. I ignored them much like most of the emails I receive, but they were persistent and sent me a reminder email 3 times. So, I finally gave in and decided to hear what they had to say.
They were very brief and unfriendly and didn't really say much.
They replied to me a week later and said that the hiring committee has decided to not proceed with my "application" because "other candidates have similar technical stacks and have worked in a more similar scope/scale as us! "
Well, kudos to their hiring team! If my portfolio was not so similar to your scope and scale, why did you approach me in the first place?
I'd stay away from them if this is an indication of what type of workplace this place is. Messy, pretentious, unorganized, ignorant.
