I applied via a job listing on a market research web site. They contacted me several months later. I had two phone interviews, did a 42 question behavioral questionnaire and two video interviews. I was asked several times during the process what my salary range was. No one said that the compensation was outside the range they were offering. After four interviews, the last of which was nearly two hours long to go over every single question of a personality survey I was given I was asked again about my range. I was told it was "too much," what is the minimum I would accept. I told them my minimum, they then asked my current salary, which I stupidly revealed (should know better). Their offer came in at less than $1,000 a year more than I was currently making. I didn't even bother to counter because a) On top of the lowball offer, their benefits were terrible and b) It seemed like all they wanted was the benefit of my skills and experience for the least amount of money they could pay me. Not the kind of company I would want to work for.
