I had an initial interview with a recruiter, who was very nice and wanted general information. I then had 3 remote interviews with different teams and the hiring manager. All of them went well.
I then went on to have an in-person interview at the studios. I went to lunch with the whole department, where one of the team members started with his rhetoric. He made comments like "I don't want to get AIDS," referencing something I touched. He asked me if I liked sports. When I said no, he said, "I bet you like the colors. " While looking at the menu, he said he wanted something "American" and "there aren't many people left like him." He asked me if I liked magic or if I was "magical." While walking back to the studios, he pointed to a building where "a lot of heavy hitters go" he let me know that I would "never be able to go there."
There was enough time in between his comments that I would either laugh it off or brush it off, but thinking back on it, it was too far. Also, my needing a job put me in a vulnerable position.
This was just one person, but 1) nobody stopped him, and 2) I got the vibe that this was the culture there.
