I applied to an AV Project Manager position and was hired as an AV Technician (I've been an AV Technician 3 times). Very quick phone call that led to a very quick in-person interview. They explained that everyone must start off as a technician here. I was hired after only a 15 minute 1:1 conversation where he did most of the talking.
I explained that I've been an AV Project Manager for the most recent 2 years, supervising AV installations in classrooms at a university. He said "I love hiring smart people who understand AV." After a short time, I was let go due to an on-site accident (expect 0 training). On my way out, he said "it's like you didn't tell me that you were in a supervisory role before this, I thought you knew what you were doing" which is completely untrue - I very clearly told him I was an AV installation supervisor with not much hands-on experience.
