They sent an AI-generated test task based on the Now in Android app that you need to complete in 90 minutes. The project you need to modify is so bloated it takes around 20 minutes just to set up on a beefy laptop with fast Internet. While you work on the task, your screen and camera are recorded. I applied online. I interviewed at Speechify (Belgrade, Central Serbia) in Jan 2025
Interview
I filled in a resume and application form after which I got an email with interview to a coding challenge where I got access to a repository. In it I had an Android project set up that had a model and repository layer implemented that returned list of books and books by ID, Then I had to create a screen with list of books that can be filtered and clicked, where user could see its details. I implemented MVVM approach with Jetpack Compose and its navigation exposing StateFlows with screen states. Although I had only 60 mins for all of that I got rejected stating (quote) "Even though you didn’t quite make it through that round, we really liked your skills and would like to give you another chance. We use a lot of AI here at Speechify, so we created an assessment built around using AI in the role. "
Personally I find this to be very unprofessional.
