      Technical Support Engineer Interview

      24 Sept 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      London, England
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Splunk (London, England) in Aug 2018

      Interview

I passed a phone interview and asked to attend a face to face interview. It was on of the worst face to face interviews I ever have to attend. After giving lots of details on how to trouble shoot a front end slow connection due to a database issue and given positive feedback from the 1st set of 2 managers, I have to carry on answering more questions to different "Team leads or Managers". I had the impression that there were too many managers to satisfy throughout the entire interview process which made things more difficult. Also not to mention that some of them arrive late and I have to repeat some of the things I said. Lack of organisation due to many management roles colliding.

      Question 1

Root Cause analysis approach to slow client connection due to a faulty database. How to support the customer from a Support engineer point of view.

We’re sorry to hear your experience was less than stellar and our sincere apologies for the late arrivals; we completely understand the frustration there. We’re committed to being respectful of our candidates’ time, and even on the busiest of days, there’s no excuse for not following through on that. Thanks so much for bringing this to our attention.

      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Splunk (Tokyo) in Jan 2025

      Interview

They made me wait for nearly 2 weeks after 3 rounds of interviews for an APAC position so they can compare me with other candidates who just applied without adequate feedback for the assignment and other interview feedback. I applied in January and was kept waiting for nearly two months. I spent more than 40 hours on a take-home assignment-an enormous waste of time. This employer was extremely disrespectful; if they thought I wasn’t experienced enough, they should have simply said no, rather than making me complete an unpaid take-home assignment that took over 40 hours, and then making me wait even longer without providing proper feedback. This was one of the worst interview processes I have ever experienced. They treated candidates poorly, using me as a benchmark to compare with late applicants. I was forced to wait longer so they could use me as a point of comparison. Overall, this company's interview process is quite lengthy due to an excessive amount of take-home assignments, which experts consider unfair when these tasks require a significant time investment. Splunk's take home assignment took for more than 40 hours to fully complete and learn all the tutorial materials to get started with.

      Interview

It’s incredibly frustrating and unprofessional when an interview gets canceled at the last minute. My time and effort were completely disregarded, and it reflects poorly on the company's communication and organizational skills. I was fully prepared, set aside other commitments, and then received nothing but a vague cancellation. This kind of treatment makes me seriously question how they value their candidates and handle things internally.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

The interview was canceled just five minutes before it was supposed to start, after I had spent an entire week preparing.
