1 hr interview with hiring manager (conversation about departments’ suite of applications and opportunities for design improvement)
Initial contact about my application was unusual in that they just used a departmental email and signed off with the department name. I did not know who I was talking to until I was on the video call. In hindsight, I should have asked.
Panel interview was a good experience, fairly relaxed and conversational and no trick questions. We walked through a graphic design and a web project in my portfolio.
First and last interview with the hiring manager were a bad experience. They didn’t introduce themself and would not disclose their role in the department. In the initial call they asked repetitive questions. I interpreted this as I was misunderstanding the initial question, so I asked for clarification. But they didn’t not to provide any and just moved on. In the last interview, they asked unusual questions like “If another department offered you a job, would you leave this one for it?” and “Is your salary expectation higher or lower to your current salary?”.
