I must admit I was extremely disappointing with my interview at Starry and I felt as though I was unjustly brought through the interview process with no intention of having an offer extended.
After applying online, I shortly received an email to setup a phone interview that week with their HR director 'Kory'. During the 45-60 minute phone interview a few conceptual C/C++ and network protocol questions were asked. At the end of the interview I was asked to complete a week long project that would test my planning and coding style based on different required objectives. I will not describe the project itself, but what I will say is that is was a fairly lengthy project that needed full attention. I was able to complete the project and each milestone required was in working order.
When it came to submitting my completed assignment, I made sure to submit it a day early and asked for a follow up with any questions about it. The response I received thanked me for the submission and that it would be about a week before the assignment could get circulated and graded properly before any questions could be asked. It was less than a day later that I received an incredibly general and non-informative email explaining that I was no longer considered for the position. I am not sure if I was lied to the entire time in order to get my submission, but I sent a follow up email asking for any feedback on my work and explained how this contradicted the email I was sent the same day. I never heard anything back; nothing.
I cannot stress how disappointed and frustrated I was going through this process. I felt as though this was handled extremely unprofessionally. After a week of hard work, I believe that I deserved more than to be ignored and my work taken with no reply. I never found out why I was removed from the process. Before you apply, I would seriously consider asking yourself whether you are comfortable with putting in a week's worth of work only to be completely ignored the same day of submission. Disappointing communication.
