The process began with a 1st round screening call with the recruiter, Paul, followed by a 2nd round involving a homework assignment. The task was designed to test your ability to navigate Stripe’s resources and figure things out independently.
I found the assignment extremely tough, especially coming in without prior hands-on experience with Stripe’s products. At that point, I thought my chances were slim but to my surprise, the outcome was positive, and the overall experience was great.
After learning more about the role and speaking with a few people at Stripe, I realised it didn’t fully align with my strengths. In particular, the technical depth expected in the assignment wasn’t the best fit for my background. It wasn’t anyone’s fault, just a matter of misalignment.
Although I ultimately decided not to move forward, I want to highlight how positive the experience was, especially because of Paul, the recruiter.
From the very start, Paul stood out for his patience and empathy. He kindly waited for me to return from vacation, followed up without pressure, and kept me updated with clear communication throughout.
Even when I told him I was withdrawing, he remained kind, respectful, and understanding. That really says a lot about the way Stripe treats people.
Paul is truly a gem, and I hope more candidates get the chance to work with someone like him. It’s rare to feel like more than just a name in a pipeline, but that’s exactly how he made me feel — human.
