      QC Supervisor/Manufacturing Engineer/Quality Engineer Interview

      30 Sept 2013
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Lakeland, FL
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Stryker (Lakeland, FL) in Aug 2013

      Interview

I originally applied to a QE position at the Lakeland, FL facility. 1. Recruiter Phone Screen- Very General Questions regarding experience and future expectations. (Late June) 2. Hiring Manager Phone Interview- Once again, very informal discussion regarding skills and competencies. During this interview I realized that the hiring manager for the QE position may be interested in placing me in a supervisor position due to my laboratory manager experience. (Early July) 3. Gall-up Interview- Once again, this was a series of 150 (I think) questions that was not terribly difficult, I think they look for certain answers depending on the position you are applying for. (Mid-Late July) 4. Recruiter and Hiring Manager decide to bring me in for a 6 hour on-site interview for the QC Supervisor Position. This started with meeting with HR, engineers, directors, lunch with the hiring manager, and phone calls into Arizona to speak with other managers. Everything went well, everyone was very professional and seemed to be a good fit. (Early August) 5. The Recruiter called me and said the Hiring manager realized that they twisted my arm for the QC supervisor role and my technical aptitude was more than they need for a position that requires on more of a 'people person' to develop the individuals in that role. However, the manufacturing engineers had a position open that they thought I would be a good fit for; they needed a chemical engineer for a new chemical line they were installing. ((Early-Mid August) 6. I then had a phone interview with the engineering hiring manager and two of the manufacturing engineers (whom I had already met) to discuss the manufacturing engineer position. This was the only interview that I felt it was very rushed, we had allotted 30 minutes, but they were 8 minutes late calling and had to leave at the end of our allotted 30 minutes due to a jammed pack schedule. (Mid-August) 7. I received a phone call a couple days later stating that they went with someone who had more manufacturing/mechanical experience. (Mid August) Overall, I thought it was a good experience. At the time, I was slightly disappointed I didn't get the position because of the amount of time and effort that both parties put in. I think their interview process is interesting and they know the exact person they are looking for, if you fit directly in, not a triangle into a square hole, you are the person for the job.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

The hiring manager asked how I was going to develop the skills of the employees when interviewing for the QC Supervisor Position. I had always used data to guide my decisions when continuously improving my staff or processes. But, he wanted a specific answer as to how I was going to personally interact and connect with the employees without using data. It was slightly strange, but I gave him an answer nonetheless (Glassdoor made me put in a most difficult question, I didn't want to).
