1) Applied for Middle School Teacher, but when I got to the interview, the recruiter said the need they have was for elementary (RED FLAG - she gave no heads up before we met).
She seemed to just be going thru the motion - behavior base, interest and so forth standard stuff. I did ask a question about structure and she beat around the bush (could not give a sure answer - another red flag).
2) Met with a principal for a Brooklyn location, though I applied for Queens. We connected well as she taught at my old high school, but it was a borough away and with the early morning hours and traffic I knew I'd be miserable so when I received the offer verbally during the interview I was pleased but later saw it as a red flag. It was giving desperate tbh.
The recruiter came back to me with an offer, but ofc I couldn't accept because of the location so I asked her to see about a queens location - she told me not to get my hopes up and the current offer prob the best I would get. I said I hear you and still pushed her to do her job and find me a better more convenient placement.
Next morning she got back to me with an offer at a Queens school.
Important lesson: advocate for yourself and know your non-negotiables!!!!
