I received a call from the Sales Manager indicating an interest to set up an interview. I spoke on the phone initially, and answered some general questions; then set up a time to meet. The Sales Manager and I met in the office at the cemetery. Now mind you, I was not looking for work in this industry but thought it made sense given the product, cemetery and funeral arrangements. The first interview lasted about an hour where all aspects of the position was discussed, compensation, the nature of the work, benefits and so on. My immediate impression was that the office was comfortable, laid back, relaxed; people seemed to enjoy their work and each other. As a few months have passed my first impressions are in fact reality. My advice is this, make sure you understand the compensation, as certain aspects, namely the commission against draw was not fully disclosed. In short, if you are in the negative you are essentially paying yourself making very little money. Given the subject that you are dealing with ( DEATH,) sales are hard to come by in a pre arranged scenario. People just put it off and especially in this economic environment they just do not see it as a priority.
