      Cloud Security Architect Interview

      10 Apr 2019
      Anonymous employee
      Dallas, TX
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at TEKsystems (Dallas, TX) in Dec 2018

      Interview

Interview process took ~two months from first call with Recruiter to my first day on the job. Recruiter phone call - insightful, very good recruiter with ability to answer relevant culture, HR, and responsibilities questions. My recruiter was also quite communicating and responsive behind the scenes, as well as onboarding. Manager phone call - Great conversation, more personal than technical, cared about being a right fit for the team and role. This conversation moved a company with a reputation for Staff Aug but for a Consulting role much higher on my list over other job opportunities, including with AWS as a Solutions Architect. Team Technical Screening (90 minutes, telephone) - three people from different practices (Risk & Security and Cloud Transformation), exceptional technical questions and conversation. We hit it off immediately, team dynamics sold me completely on the opportunity. Conversation went long, and for those on the east coast, into their evening hours. Great discussion and two-way dialog. Onsite interview in Dallas, TX with hiring manager and team leader: Flew me to Dallas (tech interview on Thursday, decision for onsite interview on Friday, travel arranged over the weekend with early Wednesday morning flight, arrived at 9am, departed at 3pm). Manager picked me up at the airport and spent five hours with me in a conference room with a whiteboard. Discussed anything and everything that came to mind, including culture, technology, team dynamics, expectations, pet peeves, etc. He committed five hours just to me in that final in-person interview. Took me to lunch with my technical team lead and another great conversation. Add an onboarding note: Decision was made to hire me that day, offer received the next day, and I started less than two weeks later. My onboarding was in Atlanta with the best trainer you could imagine, team members flew in town for a couple days of interaction and dinner, manager came in town for two days of the onboarding. Computer and everything necessary waiting for me on arrival. This demonstrated a lot of effort by my manager to get me what I needed to get off the ground without delays. Very impressive and appreciated. I'll label this an "Difficult" interview process below but only because if you don't know your stuff or how to use the STAR method, you will not get hired. They mentioned the position was open for eight months because the other candidates couldn't cut it, even some making it to the face-to-face. For me, the process was focused but not challenging. Rely on your strengths, experience, and what you have done. Let your work speak for itself.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Values, Experience, very in-depth technical questions on security, devops, cloud, and business architecture, design, standards, frameworks, and technologies. Fit for the team was clearly a priority. This is a company focused on relationships.
