      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through university. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Target (San Diego, CA)

      Interview

I was introduced to this program via my schools career office. I have always wanted to work in management and always loved Target so I was intrigued immediately. I submitted my resume on our career portal and was contacted by a recruiter to interview on campus. I had a total of 4 interviews - all the same type. I was asked about 5 behavioral questions but you have to use the STAR approach - so I would recommend brainstorming your first interview. STAR: Situation, Task, Action, Result. During the interview the interviewer will take notes and actually has boxes for each section - they only have three sections I believe (Situation, Action, Result). This is intimidating because you actually see them write out your answers and at times I was nervous they wouldn't be able to always distinguish when I would move on from Situation --> Action --> Result. The one thing I did like was that if I didn't see them writing in the last box I would slow my thoughts a bit and make sure that I was clear with what resulted from the situation and action. At one point I also had to take an aptitude/personality test. Very basic, took almost an hour. There is math, and problem solving, puzzle type questions as well. About 4 days after my final interview I was called and received an offer. I had to do a drug test within 24 hours and was supposed to only have 24 hours to accept the job. I was deciding between 3 jobs and asked for an extension. The recruiter was not excited about this but did give me 3 days.

Got the interview from a career fair. Met with one person who handled hiring and had a great conversation and had one other phone interview. Asked me relevant questions and I was excited about the role

      Interview

It was a two step interview process. Personable and you are able to interview with not only your direct managers but theirs as well. Provides transparency into your new team. My interview was virtual because I was moving to the area, but I'm sure they do in person for local folks.

Star format- they want a story for each accomplishment they inquire about.
