I did 4 interviews + an assignment that took me several hours, and I was ghosted in return with no explanation. I had the email and cell phone info for 2 people at the company, and I never received a response from either one after checking in several times over several weeks.
It's extremely disrespectful and unprofessional when companies do this, especially one that claims to care about people and marginalized communities. It's understandable to not wish to move forward with an applicant, but if I am putting in the time and effort to prepare for interviews and complete assignments, I don't see any reason why grown, professional adults can't write a 2-second email or text to let me know they are no longer interested. It took more effort on their part to ignore me.
Earlier in the interview process, I was asked about my current job. I mentioned that I was laid off unexpectedly right before Christmas and had recently relocated to be near my best friend who was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. The woman I spoke with (several times) acted sympathetic and said they would be very transparent through the process since they knew I was urgently looking. However, that did not end up being the case.
I wouldn't want to work for a company that doesn't have the basic human decency to communicate with people who are putting in several hours worth of their time for a process the company is choosing to be engaged in as well. I can't imagine how they treat their own employees.
