      Enterprise Sales Executive Interview

      3 Jun 2016
      Anonymous employee
      Sydney
      Accepted offer
      Neutral experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Teradata (Sydney) in Jul 2014

      Interview

Interview consisted of 3 formal stages and an informal meet. Initial stage was a 1:1 meeting with the hiring manager, followed by a meeting with the existing members of the team and finally a formal presentation where I was asked to whiteboard the proposition and field questions - quite standard. The final step was a casual meet in a bar to shake hands and see how we interacted socially.

      Question 1

As is standard for a sales interview, they were keen to understand my success in the past and how I had approached a previous opportunity. There was a lot of questioning and challenging to vet my skillset and ability.

      Question 2

A further observation from this experience is that this style of interviewing is quite dated and does not necessarily provide a good indication of how well someone will do their actual duties. These questions are important, and have their place in the process, especially in sales, however - a more structured and methodical process to understand someone's thinking, approach and how they would tackle a problem within the business environment they are interviewing would be a more sensible approach and provide a better indication of whether that person can do the job the business is hiring for. This is not a Teradata specific issue, but rather a systemic issue that affects the industry as a whole.
