Short phone interview with HR person, seemed everything was square. Set up very long interview process at two different sites on the same day, one in NY, one just across the border in NJ. By far, the worst interview experience I have ever had. Total process which included 4 interviews, a lab tour, and lunch, which they did not pay for, took ~5 hours. This is for an ENTRY-LEVEL QC chemist/associate scientist position, BS with 1-2 years experience.
During the course of my four interviews, I got three different answers about what I would be doing if they hired me, none of which matched the job description or what I had clearly stated I was looking for. The barrage of questions I was forced to endure for a position of this level was staggering. I would say 75% of the questions I was asked were irrelevant or inappropriate. One person insisted on asking inane and irrelevant theory questions, which I knew the answers to, and challenged me on every single answer even when the answer I provided was well established. Another insisted on asking for way too much personal information about me, some of which was completely inappropriate. The expectations were ridiculous, it was as if I was applying for a senior scientist position as a formulator.
