      Assistant Manager Interview

      11 May 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Salt Lake City, UT
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at The Buckle (Salt Lake City, UT) in Mar 2019

      Interview

Interviewing was done on the sales floor, it was quiet other than a customer flirting with an employee for 20 mins while I waited to be interviewed. Store manager was in basic casual, it seemed like a "mom with kids" scenario. Heavy aura to fit in, stereotypical teen, metro sexual, hipster, soccer mom type styles. You aren't going to get hired there unless you wear the brand, and either be an adolescent or have the personality of one. They'll tell you about how long it will take to hear an answer, said it would be a week to sound like they have a ton of applicants, which may be true since the job posting is indefinite, but got a rejection notice in hours after and heavy retail experience seems mundane to hiring manager felt like they were false and fake, pay is low for this position and only good for a part-time job, seems unreliable for full-time.

      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at The Buckle (Olympia, WA) in Mar 2019

      Interview

The first interview went really well but after looking at my resume the manager gave me a choice on if I wanted the assistant manager job or to go for a visual merchandiser position they have open. I love to do that, so I said yeah that would be an even better fit for me. I have many years in merchandising and one year in management. He told me I will need to apply for that position and then come back in for another interview. I went online, the position wasn’t there. I called and he said he needs to add it on there it should only take a day. A week went by, still not there. Called again and he said sorry he’s been busy and will add it. Finally he adds it, I apply, 2 weeks later get call to come in for another interview. Goes well and then another 2 week later after that he calls and tells me that he doesn’t need a merchandiser anymore? He only needs a part time sales associate. I say ok I can do that for now and then later on move up in the company, he says ok awesome he will call me back with more info. He calls a week later and says he’s not sure if the position would be a good fit for me? Tells me to come in and do a test run first and WORK WHILE NOT BEING PAID!? I’m just like are you serious at this point and declined the offer. The whole experience was a waste of my time and he lead me on thinking I was going to get hired, told me to apply for a job that they didn’t need filled and took 2 months with the whole process. Instead of hiring me on for a part time sales associate that I’m way over qualified for, he wanted me to work for free first. Ridiculous.

      Assistant Manager Interview

      Anonymous interview candidate
      Kennesaw, GA

      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at The Buckle (Kennesaw, GA) in Feb 2019

      Interview

I applied online and got a phone call to schedule an interview within a couple of weeks. Come the day of, I waited around for about 15 minutes past the scheduled time. The actual interview took no more than 20 minutes and was with two managers. It felt rushed and pointless, I was only asked 2 or 3 actual questions pertaining to the position, everything else was me listening to one of them speak, and asking me about the timeline of my career. He was very quick to take over, and seemed defensive after I explained what my present duties were. The interview ended very abruptly, it seemed unnatural and like it was being timed. I left there being told "we'll call you", and the only thing i learned about the position was that I would be working with other managers to hold others accountable, and that they don't hire "debbie downers". Hands down worst interview experience I've had, but it does match the pattern I've seen while looking at other people's interview experiences.
