      Lumber and Building Materials Interview

      2 Nov 2013
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at The Home Depot

      Interview

Very brief interview only having to answer questions about what customer service means to you, why you would be a good candidate and any job related experience you have. The person that interviews you will either be the Assistant Store Manager (ASM), The Human Resources Associate, or the Store Manager. Usually the Store Manager will come and introduce themselves to you by a simple "Hi, my name is ______, its nice to meet you and welcome aboard." Whoever does the interview has no formal training on interviewing and will sometimes read a printout word for word and take notes on your answers. Prepare for and research the most basic questions in customer service interviews. Dress professional and make it clear that you are a hard worker and a very willing and eager to learn. Most people are hired and offered the job at the end of the first interview. From there, if you accept, they hand you some paperwork and directions to a health clinic. If you accept the job, you have to complete the drug test within 24 hours from the time of hire. It takes 3 to 5 days for the results from your drug test and background check to be completed and immediately after completion they call you and schedule a start date for classroom training for a week. Training is paid and lasts about a week depending on the department you will be working in and then you are on the floor helping customers and learning as you go.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Being centered around customer service as the # 1 priority regardless of department the interview is for the most difficult question is "please tell me about a time you encountered an unhappy customer or a problem that needed to be solved at a previious job. What was the problem and how did you respond?
