      Teacher Interview

      30 Sept 2020
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at The Roeper School

      Interview

Was called the night before for an interview and asked to come up with a lesson plan for a specific age group and this was not even the position I initially applied for (I didn't find that out until after I agreed to interview). The overall feeling of the panel of 8 administrators/teachers was very off-putting. The director couldn't remember my name (which automatically makes one feel as though they aren't that important) and the rest of the staff continuously reiterated how special their school and students are. As an educator, I truly feel that ALL students are special and an institution like this caters to the wealthy, rather than the truly gifted students. I'm sure there are many gifted students, but when I taught my lesson, they just seemed like ordinary kids, yet I was asked what I noticed that was special about these students. They were like any other group of students I've taught before, so this question was somewhat out of line. They staff had an air of superiority which is not a trait I like to see in colleagues. Overall, I would recommend that this school reflects on their interview process and how they come across to "outsiders," it isn't a good look.

      Question 1

What did you notice that is special about our students? How would you address diversity in the classroom?
